How Black Water Axes and Ales was born!

It was created out of a need to bring something fun and unique to Orangeburg that a lot of locals were traveling at least an hour away to do – drink craft beer and axe throwing.

Meet Ty and Rosemary

Ty Merritt was born in Lake City, SC and grew up in Columbia, SC. In 2009, he met his now wife Rosemary, who was born and raised in Columbia, SC. Ty & Rosemary along with their 4 girls moved to Cordova, SC to take care of Ty and Ryan’s dad after the passing of Ryan’s mom and him leaving to attend Clemson University. With having 2 girls each from their previous marriages, Ty and Rosemary blended their families in 2010, and then had one girl together in 2012. Ty has worked in the car sales business since before meeting Rosemary and is currently the Finance Manager at Fairey Chevrolet in Orangeburg, SC. Rosemary has been a stay at home mom since they married and took care of their 5 girls and Ty and Ryan’s dad through his cancer battle for 7 years until his passing in 2019. Since then, some of the kids have moved out, moved on and Ty and Rosemary decided to bring something fun and unique to Orangeburg. In January 2022, a new baby was born: Black Water Axes & Ales. We have enjoyed getting to know so many people in our community by bringing something new and exciting to the plate for people of all ages and backgrounds.
